HUAMANTLA, TLAXCALA, MEXICO – AUGUST 22, 2026 Traditional bull-running event Huamantlada ended tragically. During the 72nd edition, 21 bulls were released into the streets, and two people died in incidents while another 11 were injured. Nine of the injured had to be hospitalized.
The first victim was Juan Manuel Filomeno Herrera (29). While fleeing from a bull, he fell and was subsequently gored twice by the animal. He suffered severe head and chest injuries, as well as an injury to his left lung caused by a horn. He later succumbed to his injuries.

The second victim was Luis Xolocotzi Ramírez (57). He suffered severe head trauma and a deep thigh injury. Due to his serious condition, he was transported by helicopter to a specialized hospital in the State of México, where he subsequently died.
Among the injured was also a 24-year-old woman from the United States who lives in the Mexican state of Puebla. She suffered a horn injury and was reportedly in stable condition. Another 57-year-old man was in serious condition after suffering a head injury.
According to a health authorities official, this year’s Huamantlada was the deadliest edition in the past five years. The first injury was reported approximately one and a half minutes after the bulls were released.
