BURKINA FASO, 2025 Group of Islamist rebels affiliated with the notorious terrorist organization Al-Qaeda carried out an armed attack on a small military base. Using both their numerical advantage and the element of surprise, they killed all the soldiers inside.
Attacks like this are among many that Burkina Faso has faced recently. The country is in a deep security and political crisis. Although President Ibrahim Traoré, who came to power after a military coup in 2022, enjoys broad public support, violence and security threats from radical Islamic groups continue.
