BAYAMBANG, PANGASINAN, PHILIPPINES – JANUARY, 2016 Mharlynne Prado Iglesias drowned off the coast of Binmaley on January 3, 2016. Her lifeless body was pulled ashore by random people, but it was too late to save her life. She was pronounced dead on arrival of paramedicsand buried on 14 January 2016.

Unlike in Western countries, it is quite normal in the Philippines to hold funerals with an open casket and to take photos of the deceased. For family and close friends, it’s like a last memory. It is not taboo to share these photos on social networks, which families of the deceased do very often.
