BLIDA, ALGERIA – APRIL 13, 2026 In the Algerian city of Blida, an attempted attack against security forces took place, in which two suicide attackers attempted to target police officers. The incident triggered extensive security measures and a subsequent investigation aimed at determining the circumstances of the attack and possible links between the perpetrators and extremist groups.
According to available information, both attackers attempted to approach areas where police officers were located, after which explosions occurred. Both perpetrators died in the attack. Authorities were investigating whether their targets were specific police facilities or members of the security forces in the area.
The incident took place in the city of Blida, located approximately 50 kilometers southwest of the capital Algiers. The area was sealed off after the attack, and security forces launched an investigation to determine the identities of the attackers, their motives, and possible links to terrorist organizations.
Algeria has long experience with Islamist violence, particularly from the period of the civil war in the 1990s, when the country faced widespread attacks by armed groups.
