Witnesses describe the incident as hell – injuries everywhere, one woman lying under a blood-stained blanket. It’s a miracle the incident claimed only one victim.
The car was left stationary on Broadway’s 45th Street after crashing into a utility pole. Its driver waited inside for the police and voluntarily surrendered to them.
The mayor of New York told the media that the 26-year-old driver, Richard Rojas, had been arrested several times in the past for drunk driving. There’s no indication that he did it on purpose.
