BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA – MARCH 31, 2024 In the Merlo district, in the suburbs of Buenos Aires, a horrific crime occurred. 43-year-old Matías Alejandro Guiñazú stabbed his wife, 42-year-old Soledad Ibáñez, to death. He was caught in the act by responding police officers, who were called by neighbors. However, they could no longer help the woman – she was lying motionless, butchered, in a pool of her own blood on the ground.
The attacker attempted to commit suicide right in front of the police. He cut himself with the same knife he had used to murder his wife. The police resorted to using non-lethal bullets and a taser, which allowed them to subdue and arrest him. He was charged with aggravated murder, which in Argentina carries a sentence of up to life imprisonment.
