ISTANBUL, TURKEY Suspect was caught in the act in one of Istanbul’s busiest commercial zones while attempting to inappropriately touch passing women. Due to the high density of people in the narrow streets of Tahtakale, shopkeepers and bystanders immediately noticed his behavior. The situation rapidly escalated into a lynching, as a crowd surrounded the man and began physically punishing him before a police patrol could arrive. According to eyewitnesses, the attack was so intense that officers had significant difficulty extracting the man from the hands of the enraged mob and ensuring his safety.
After being taken to the police station and subsequently treated, the man was identified as a repeat offender who had faced similar charges in the past. This specific incident sparked a wave of discussions on Turkish social media, where opinions approving of ‘street justice’ clashed with voices warning of the dangers of mob psychosis and the absence of due process.
