AURORA, COLORADO, USA – AUGUST 30, 2025 In the area of 6th Avenue and Billings Street, a tragic incident occurred in which a police officer used lethal force against an unarmed man. The victim was 37-year-old Rajon Belt-Stubblefield. According to the police department, Belt-Stubblefield initially tried to flee, but then returned to the police vehicle and began struggling with the officer. Fearing for his life, the officer felt compelled to use his service weapon.

The incident has sparked strong reactions in the community, particularly because Belt-Stubblefield was African American. It recalls previous cases where police actions were deemed excessive and resulted in the death of a suspect. Community members have emphasized that Belt-Stubblefield was a loving father of two children.
The officer, whose name has not been released, has been placed on administrative leave. An investigation is currently underway to determine whether the shooting was justified under the circumstances.
While the situation may evoke negative feelings toward the officer, since he shot someone armed only with his fists, it is important to understand that if the officer had been overpowered, the suspect could have gained access to the officer’s firearm, endangering many people nearby. Another perspective raises the question of whether the officer would have shot if the suspect had been white. The final verdict, however, should be left to the investigation committee.
The victim’s family has started a public fundraiser on GoFundMe. Their goal is to raise $12,000 for a dignified funeral. If you want to contribute, you can help the family HERE.
