Base jumper leaping from the roof of a tall building in front of dozens of spectators ran into trouble when his parachute got caught on a tree. This caused him to fall from a height of several dozen feet. Unfortunately, he did not survive the fall.
Unlike skydiving, base jumping is a much riskier sport. In skydiving, people jump from several miles high, which provides enough time to deploy a reserve parachute. The higher speeds achieved by skydivers also provide better aerodynamics and reduce the likelihood of flipping. In skydiving, the risk of hitting obstacles is minimal, as they usually jump over open spaces.
