TEHERAN, IRAN – SEPTEMBER, 2022 Nika Shakermi was a sixteen-year-old girl who died during the Iranian protests in Tehran in 2022. According to the examination of her body, she suffered multiple injuries and fractures that suggest she fell from a height. Some reports, however, claim it may have been a suicide, as Nika had reportedly been subjected to long-term domestic abuse and mistreatment by her mother.

The protests during which Nika died began after the death of Mahsa Amini, a young woman detained by police for allegedly improperly wearing a hijab.
