FLORIDA STATE PRISON, RAIFORD, FLORIDA, USA – JULY 8, 1999 Allen Lee Davis (1944–1999), also known as “Big Al,” was an American convicted murderer who was executed in Florida for a brutal crime. In 1982, he murdered a pregnant woman, Nancy Weiler, and her two daughters, Kristina (9 years old) and Katherine (5 years old), in Jacksonville, Florida.
The case was notorious for its extreme brutality. Davis killed Nancy by beating her in the head and then shot her daughters. He was arrested, tried, and sentenced to death. His execution was carried out in the electric chair on July 8, 1999.
The execution became controversial due to its reportedly gruesome nature. Davis began bleeding heavily from the nose during the process, which sparked debates about the humanity of the electric chair as a method of execution. This incident contributed to broader discussions about the death penalty in the United States and led Florida to later adopt lethal injection as its primary method of execution.
