ANAKAPALLI, ANDHRA PRADESH, INDIA – JANUARY 26, 2024 Elderly woman, Lakshmi Narayanamma, was attacked while alone in her home. The perpetrator, identified as Govind, a cable technician, attempted to strangle her with a towel and stole her gold chain weighing approximately 6 to 8 tolas (60–80 grams). Despite the aggressive assault, the woman resisted and called for help, with the incident being captured by security cameras in her house. The attacker fled the scene, but the woman survived with injuries and was hospitalized.
Her family reported the crime, leading to an investigation by the police. Govind has been charged under Sections 307 (attempted murder) and 394 (causing hurt during robbery) of the Indian Penal Code. However, he remains at large, and authorities are actively searching for him.
The case has sparked outrage on social media, with the public demanding strict punishment for the perpetrator. It has also highlighted the vulnerability of elderly individuals living alone and the need for improved safety measures and community support.
