VICTORIA, YORO, HONDURAS – JUNE, 2023 33-year-old kindergarten teacher Ingrid Ualloa and her 28-year-old boyfriend Argenys, a taxi driver, were murdered. Ingrid was just two weeks away from earning her bachelor’s degree in secondary education. She and Argenys had been dating for about four months.

On the day of the murder, Ingrid called her sister to say she’d be home late because she was accompanying her boyfriend on errands in a nearby town. Two hours later, local residents reported hearing gunshots in a wooded area. Police found both victims dead by the roadside – Ingrid had been strangled and showed signs of torture, while Argenys had been shot twice in the head. Both had their hands bound and were gagged.
Police believed they may have been killed in a vehicle and then dumped, though the gunshots heard suggest the murders happened at the scene. The killers were never identified.
Argenys was linked to possible criminal activity – he transported supposed “VIPs,” sold secondhand goods, and lent money. Ingrid had recently divorced a reportedly temperamental ex-husband, which was another possible motive. Police investigated both leads but reached no conclusions.
There was speculation that Ingrid was the main target due to the nature of her death, or conversely, that she was tortured to force Argenys to reveal information. Another theory suggested she was targeted for participating in recent anti-government protests by teachers and healthcare workers, although there was no concrete evidence.
Robbery was ruled out as a motive – Ingrid still had her purse with cash and ID, and while Argenys had no wallet, it didn’t appear to be financially motivated.
