HO CHI MINH (SAIGON), VIETNAM – FEBRUARY 1, 1968 During the Tet Offensive, South Vietnamese General Nguyễn Ngọc Loan shot a Viet Cong member named Nguyễn Văn Lém on a street in Saigon. The event was captured by photographer Eddie Adams (AP) and an NBC cameraman. Lém was captured after allegedly leading a commando unit that massacred the family of one of Loan’s subordinates. The photograph won a Pulitzer Prize, but at the same time, it destroyed the general’s reputation and strengthened the anti-war movement in the USA.
