TURKEY When the man found out from his wife that his daughter was engaged and was going to get married, he couldn’t handle it. He went as far as the most desperate step and committed suicide during a live stream on a social network. He shot himself in the head with a pistol in front of several dozen shocked viewers.
Although his reason for suicide may sound absurd, it stems from the cultural environment in which he lived. When a woman gets engaged without her father’s consent, it is seen as a huge humiliation, a loss of authority or control over the family. It also greatly lowers social reputation.
If you’re thinking about suicide, please stop and recognize that your pain is not permanent, but this step would be. It may feel like there’s no other way, but there is hope, even if it’s hard to see right now. Your feelings are temporary, and with help, they can pass.
