BOGOTÁ, COLOMBIA – MARCH 12, 2026 In the Israelitas neighborhood, professional dancer and university student Luz Ángela Peña was robbed. Just a few meters from her home, she was stopped by two men on a motorcycle who tried to steal a suitcase containing belongings and money intended for a planned artistic tour in El Salvador.
During the attack, she was assaulted with a knife and suffered three stab wounds to her legs and one to her hand. According to her, she was bleeding heavily and had to be treated at a hospital.
In the suitcase, she had her own savings, her mother’s savings, and also part of borrowed money that was meant to cover travel expenses, since she had been chosen to represent Colombia abroad. After the robbery, her participation in the tour is now practically at risk.
The attackers have not been caught. Local residents say that so-called “motoladrones” – motorcycle thieves – have been operating in the area for a long time and are demanding increased police patrols.
