VENEZUELA – JUNE, 2026 On June 24, 2026, Venezuela experienced one of the worst natural disasters in the country’s modern history. Within just 39 seconds, two very powerful earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5 struck, affecting primarily the northern part of the country, including the capital city of Caracas.
According to the latest figures, at least 3,535 people were killed, more than 16,700 were injured, and nearly 18,000 people lost their homes. Thousands of others are still missing or awaiting identification.
In the first days after the disaster, images of unidentified victims circulated among rescue workers to help families recognize their loved ones. Due to the chaos, communication outages, and the enormous number of victims, the identification process was very slow.
