TACLOBAN CITY, LEYTE, PHILIPPINES – AUGUST 4, 2025 35-year-old beauty queen Acquene Arradaza, who won the Miss Matag-ob contest in 2012, was found dead. Local fishermen discovered her in the sea, tied up and bound with bags of stones that acted as weights.

Acquene Arradaza was kidnapped on July 31 in the Valencia district. While out shopping, three armed men approached her and forced her into a black Toyota Wigo. The incident was captured by a security camera, and another city camera later recorded the vehicle fleeing. Despite a search for the car, neither the vehicle nor Acquene had been seen since.

On August 4, fishermen found a female body off the coast of Barangay 99-Diit in Tacloban City. The body was in an advanced state of decomposition and completely naked. Her hands, legs, and neck were tightly bound, her eyes covered with black cloth, and her mouth sealed with adhesive tape. A bicycle lock was around her neck, and bags of stones were attached to her body to keep it submerged.

The fishermen immediately called the police. Forensic experts confirmed with regret that it was the missing Acquene Arradaza. Cause of her death was determined to be strangulation. She left behind three children and a grieving mother, Vilma Arradaza, who is currently fighting for justice for her daughter.

Police classified the case as a premeditated abduction and murder. A search is ongoing for the three suspected men. Strikingly, her family reported her missing only on the day her body was found.
