MARÉ, RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – MAY, 2025 Police officers from the elite unit BOPE (Batalhão de Operações Policiais Especiais) carried out a raid in recent days in the Maré favela complex. The goal was to fight against the gang Terceiro Comando Puro (TCP), which controls this part of the city. The result was an intense shootout that claimed lives on both sides.
Sergeants Jorge Henrique Galdino Cruz and Rafael Wolfgramm Dias from BOPE were fatally injured during the shootout. Another police officer was wounded but survived. The police stated that losses on the side of TCP were much higher, and they managed to eliminate several high-ranking members.
One of them was Thiago da Silva Folly, also known by the nicknames “TH” or “Gabigol”. This man was considered one of the most wanted criminals in Rio de Janeiro. He was facing a total of 16 arrest warrants for murder, drug trafficking, and other serious crimes.

In addition to Thiago, two of his bodyguards also died: Luciano Candido Crispim, also known as “pitbull”, and “Gotinha”, who was also his nephew. Gotinha was well known on social media, where he showed off a gangster lifestyle full of expensive cars and motorcycles. According to police, he was responsible for an armed attack on officers that led to the deaths of several policemen.

During this operation, 24 suspects were arrested and a large amount of drugs, weapons, ammunition, and stolen cars were seized. Among the weapons was even an anti-aircraft machine gun and grenades. A hideout used by the gang as their refuge was also uncovered.
