Before the police arrived, he and some passing bystanders brutally beat the robber. He smashed the robber’s forehead with the pistol’s handle.
Although in this case things ended well for everyone involved, including the robber (lynching to death is not uncommon in these more remote areas of Brazil), generally such behavior during a robbery is not recommended. Your personal belongings are never more valuable than your life.
