LAGES, SANTA CATARINA, BRAZIL – OCTOBER 29, 2025 35-year-old Alaide Cristina Varela Teixeira da Luz was brutally attacked by her ex-husband on Avenida Presidente Vargas in the Coral district. Almir Inácio da Luz came to her workplace, where she worked as a baker. Under the pretense of an important conversation, he forced her to step outside and attacked her with a knife.

When random passersby heard the victim’s desperate screams, they went to help her. One of them, who worked as a member of the municipal intervention unit, tried to actively stop the perpetrator. Unfortunately, he was unsuccessful, and he continued stabbing her.
Alaide unfortunately died from her injuries. Shortly after the act, Almir attempted suicide by cutting his own throat. He did not succeed. He was arrested and will face charges of femicide.
The perpetrator’s sister stated that Almir had been suffering from deep depression before the attack, which was further aggravated by a long-running legal dispute over marital property.
