Heavily drunk man sitting on a bench fell asleep while smoking a cigarette. It dropped onto him and set his clothes on fire. Because of his intoxication, he had little chance to defend himself against the flames, as he wasn’t even able to stand up. Help came only when a passing driver stopped, got out, and extinguished the fire with a jacket. Unfortunately, by then the victim was already completely engulfed in flames.
The man suffered burns on more than 80% of his body. This level is generally considered critical and life-threatening. Usually, only young people in good physical condition survive such injuries, and only if they receive immediate and professional medical care.
The incident is a reminder of the dangers of alcohol and, in fact, also of smoking and handling fire. Alcohol can be dangerous not just behind the wheel.
