ELURU, ANDHRA PRADESH, INDIA – OCTOBER 31, 2024 Two-wheeler carrying firecrackers hit a pothole, causing a powerful explosion. One person, the driver of the two-wheeler, was torn apart and died. Six other people were injured.
The firecrackers were of the “onion bomb” type. These are balls full of gunpowder that fly up into the sky and produce a nice lighting effect when they explode. Experts have estimated that the force of the explosion of such a number of onion bombs is the same as that of a detonating device.
The firecrackers were intended to be used for the Hindu festival of Diwali. Hindus light small clay lamps filled with oil to symbolize the victory of good over evil. Fireworks are often used during the celebration.
