SAN JUAN DE MIRAFLORES, PERU – MARCH 17, 2026 Brutal hitman attack shook the suburbs of the capital, Lima. The target of the shooting was a commuter van from the San Pedro de Pamplona company, known by the nickname ‘Los Rojitos.’ A masked attacker in a black hooded sweatshirt waited for the vehicle at the busy intersection of Miguel Iglesias and Andrés Avelino Cáceres streets, where he cold-bloodedly fired four shots directly into the driver’s cabin and then fled on a prepared motorcycle.
The tragedy claimed three lives. 23-year-old driver Jorge Luis Félix Vargas and two passengers, 39-year-old Olinda Quispe and 28-year-old Asunción Quispe, who had boarded the vehicle just moments before the attack, died at the scene or during transport to the hospital. While shocked passengers ran out of the slowly stopping vehicle after the shooting, the attacker and an accomplice disappeared into heavy city traffic.
According to statements from relatives, the young driver became a victim of ruthless extortion by criminal gangs. Jorge Luis Félix Vargas had purchased the van on installments only three months ago to start a legal business. The investigation suggests he had to pay protection money to two different organizations at once, which is a frequent and tragic phenomenon affecting local carriers in this area.
