UTTAR PRADESH, INDIA – MARCH 8, 2025 60-year-old farmer, Sardar Vedprakash, poured flammable liquid on himself and set himself on fire. The incident occurred when officials from the tax office and police officers were measuring the boundary of his land. He was accused of unauthorized use of someone else’s land, but allegedly knowingly violated a court decision.
The police managed to extinguish him, but he suffered serious burns. He was transported to the medical college in Pilkhani, Saharanpur, where he was hospitalized in critical condition. Later, he was moved to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, where his condition worsened after five days on a ventilator, and he died.
