IRAN It was a story almost like something out of a romantic movie. A young Iranian man had loved the same girl since he was a child. When they finally reached the right age, he planned to marry her.
But, according to tradition, he went to ask her family for permission. They immediately kicked him out without any discussion and told him he couldn’t marry her. They said he was too poor.
This drove the young man to a tragic decision. He poured gasoline on himself and set himself on fire. Even though there were people around who were ready to help and put out the flames, he suffered burns that were not survivable.
If you’re thinking about suicide, please stop and recognize that your pain is not permanent, but this step would be. It may feel like there’s no other way, but there is hope, even if it’s hard to see right now. Your feelings are temporary, and with help, they can pass.
