CULIACÁN, SINALOA, MEXICO – AUGUST 4, 2026 Twenty-five-year-old Mexican influencer César Gastélum was shot during a live broadcast on social media. The attack took place in front of the KFC fast-food restaurant, where Gastélum was recording content together with two other people.

According to investigators, two men on a motorcycle approached the location. One of them allegedly got off and fired several shots at Gastélum while the live broadcast was taking place. The attackers then fled the scene. Emergency responders were unable to save the influencer, and he was pronounced dead at the location.

Gastélum was best known for his videos on the TikTok platform, where he posted comedy and lifestyle content. His account was followed by hundreds of thousands of people – various sources report more than 600,000 to over 700,000 followers.

At the time of the attack, he was reportedly dressed as a delivery service worker and taking part in a recording session with friends. Shortly before the shooting, he allegedly noticed suspicious men on a motorcycle and expressed concerns. The attack itself was then captured on camera during the broadcast.

The motive for the murder has not yet been officially confirmed. However, authorities are investigating possible links to organized crime, as Culiacán has long been one of the centers of violence connected to conflicts between factions of the Sinaloa cartel. Investigators are also examining some of Gastélum’s social media posts and possible links to criminal circles.
