IRAN In Iran, massive anti-government protests began on December 28, 2025, triggered by the country’s economic problems, especially hyperinflation, which has rapidly increased the cost of living for most residents. These protests quickly spread throughout the country – they have been reported in 250 locations across 27 of the 31 provinces, and people of all ages and social groups are taking part.

The regime is trying to actively suppress the protests and is responding with harsh repression. Revolutionary Guard forces, militias, and special police units have been deployed to the streets. They are using tear gas and other coercive measures against the demonstrators, even in places where the protests are peaceful.
There are also cases of live ammunition being used against protesters. Unfortunately, this has already led to dozens of deaths, including small children. In addition, the police are massively arresting thousands of protesters, who are being accused without clear reasons. Some of them have even been transferred to secret prisons or facilities known for harsh treatment of inmates.
Donald Trump has stated that he is prepared to intervene if the Iranian regime continues killing protesters. The European Union has expressed dissatisfaction regarding human-rights violations and called on Iran to respect freedom of expression.
