MANABÍ PROVINCE, ECUADOR – JULY 16, 2025 Leader of the criminal organization Los Lobos, Flavio Leonardo Briones Chiquito, was killed during an armed attack on the road toward San Mateo. During the attack, his wife, Génesis Mendoza, also lost her life. Two of the three members of his personal security team, identified as Carlos Pacheco and Eder Pluas, were also killed. The third survived and was transported to the hospital.

The couple was in a black pickup truck with tinted windows. Their security detail followed behind in a white pickup. When the vehicles pulled over to the roadside, the attackers opened fire on both. Génesis died in the vehicle in the driver’s seat. The others were outside the vehicles.
Los Lobos is one of the largest and most dangerous criminal factions operating in Ecuador. Originally formed as a splinter group from Los Choneros, they later became independent. They specialize in drug trafficking, extortion, contract killings, and illegal arms.
