LAFAYETTE, INDIANA, USA – DECEMBER 5, 2024 73-year-old Louis McGlothlin, a U.S. Navy veteran from Lincoln, Nebraska, entered a laundry in Lafayette with the intent to kill. Armed with a pistol, he started shooting wildly at everyone around him. He killed 35-year-old Keith Ford and injured two others: 32-year-old Renee Martin and 30-year-old Salvador Antonio De La Cruz Reyes. After the attack, he shot himself in the head and died in the hospital two days later.
Police investigation revealed that McGlothlin was seriously mentally ill. He believed that all the residents of Lafayette controlled his mind. Evidence was found (videos and notes) showing that he had been planning the attack for several years.
