CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA – JUNE 6, 2024 Tragic incident shook the Mitchells Plain community. 54-year-old Anthony Cupido suffered severe injuries after being attacked by two aggressive pit bulls in a local park on Galaxy Way while they were off-leash and without muzzles. Shocked witnesses described the dogs literally tearing pieces of his face while he lay helpless on the ground.
It later emerged that the dogs were being walked by a young girl – the owners’ daughter – who was unable to control the escalating situation. Several bystanders tried to intervene, but the dogs continued their bloody attack.
Anthony was taken to Lentegeur Hospital and, due to the severity of his injuries, was later transferred to Groote Schuur Hospital, where doctors managed to stabilize him. He remained in critical condition with a high risk of infection. No further updates on his health are currently available.
The incident serves as a warning to all owners of large and especially aggressive dog breeds. While they may seem like harmless pets to you, they are still animals that cannot assess every situation like humans can. Such dogs should always be on a leash and muzzled when walked, and letting a small child handle them is an utterly dangerous idea.
