RAJKOT, GUJARAT, INDIA – MARCH 4, 2025 Tragedy occurred in the village of Kakdi Moli when a local farmer was attacked and killed by a lioness. Manga Baraiya was watering his farm at night when the lioness struck. He cried out for help and tried to fight back, but when the lioness sank her fangs into his stomach and dragged him about 1,500 feet away, he succumbed.
Farmers in the area heard his cries and rushed to the scene. But all they found was his lifeless body with the lioness sitting on top of him, guarding her prey.
According to witnesses, it took hours to lure the lioness away. When they finally succeeded, they saw the devastation – Manga’s abdominal cavity was completely open, with most of his intestines spilling out.
Wildlife experts pointed out that lions are not uncommon in this area and that farmers should remain cautious. They also explained that the lioness’s behavior was perfectly natural – she was guarding her prey against scavengers.
Still, such cases are rare, as lion attacks on humans are uncommon. This usually occurs when the animal is sick, protecting its cubs, or feels threatened by humans.
