SINGRAULI, MADHYA PRADESH, INDIA – MARCH 20, 2026 40-year-old Annelal Baiga from the Baiga community was brutally attacked after he and his wife went into the forest to collect firewood. According to his statement, they were stopped near the Nigahi Coal Handling Plant by security personnel who suspected them of stealing scrap metal.
The video shows Annelal Baiga lying on the ground and pleading with his attacker to stop beating him. A man identified as a security worker allegedly repeatedly struck him with a hockey stick, while people watching did not intervene and, according to the footage, even encouraged the attack.
According to police, the incident took place on March 20, 2026, but the video did not begin circulating on social media until early May. After it was posted, police opened criminal proceedings against three people. Two suspects, Pradeep Patel and Makardhwaj Singh, were detained for questioning.
