ATLANTA, GEORGIA, USA – AUGUST 23, 2026 Confrontation occurred near the Atlanta BeltLine that ended in a fatal stabbing. A 29-year-old Ramon Harris was stabbed in the neck during the attack and taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he later died. Police detained 54-year-old Jonathan Hamby at the scene, whom investigators consider to be the suspect. Police said the conflict began with a verbal argument that quickly escalated.

According to police, Jonathan Hamby has an extensive criminal history. He is listed as a convicted offender and was on active probation at the time of the attack in connection with a serious assault case in Brookhaven. Police records show approximately 30 previous arrests involving him. Investigators also said they believe Hamby and the victim did not know each other before the incident.
The attack occurred in broad daylight near the Kroger at 725 Ponce de Leon Avenue NE, close to the Eastside Trail. Witnesses described a chaotic scene in which people began running when the confrontation broke out. One witness said the injured man was still conscious after the attack and responded while paramedics attempted to treat him. Police also said a knife believed to have been used in the attack was found at the scene.
Police are continuing to investigate the case. Atlanta News First reports that Jonathan Hamby is facing charges of murder, aggravated assault, possession of a knife during the commission of a crime, and terroristic threats.
