INDIA Aghori is one of the most controversial sects derived from Hinduism. Its members practice extreme spiritual rituals that often violate both social and religious norms. These include smearing themselves with ashes from corpses, meditating among dead bodies, drug use, nudity, and even cannibalism.

They do not commit murder, but instead pull dead bodies from the sacred Ganges River or collect corpses left at cremation sites. They believe that by consuming human flesh, they absorb the life force and spiritual energy remaining in the body. They also believe that everything in this world is perfect because it is created by God, including things others consider impure (such as death, corpses, and waste).
The Aghori are a very secluded group. They do not seek contact with others, and people are afraid of them, yet they are still considered sacred and respected. The Indian government holds a similar stance. Reports of any Aghori being detained, for example for desecrating human remains, are very rare.
