Elderly woman slightly cut her leg and an infection got into the wound. Because of diabetes, she did not feel any pain, so the infection gradually spread. When her daughter noticed the wound was inflamed, it was already too late. At the hospital, she was given antibiotics and her dressings were changed, but she did not respond to treatment and the infection continued to spread. When most of her foot was necrotic and her life was at risk due to sepsis, doctors had to resort to the most radical solution – amputation.
