SALVADOR, BRAZIL – DECEMBER 17, 2024 Street vendor, whose identity was not revealed, was brutally murdered in front of the Shopping Vitória Center in the Barra neighborhood of Salvador. The crime shocked the local population due to its violence and occurred in broad daylight.
According to information and footage circulating on social media, the attacker was identified as a 31-year-old man named Marcelo. During the assault, the victim attempted to rise and flee, but fell shortly afterward. Witnesses reported that one person tried to chase Marcelo, but the attacker managed to escape.
The Military Police (PM) were called to the scene and administered first aid to the victim, who was then taken to the Hospital Geral do Estado (HGE). Despite the efforts of the medical team, the street vendor succumbed to his injuries.
After the crime, Marcelo was located and arrested by PM officers. He was taken to the Department of Homicides and Protection of Persons (DHPP) and later transferred to a hospital, where he remains in police custody.
During his interrogation, Marcelo claimed to have acted in self-defense. According to the suspect, the victim had struck him on the head with a sombrero before the attack. The motive for the crime is still under investigation.
