ARAIÓSES, MARANHÃO, BRAZIL – AUGUST 23, 2011 28-year-old Telma de Jesus Araújo Cardoso was brutally murdered with a machete by her 30-year-old husband, Francisco das Chagas de Souza Lima. The motive was her decision to end the relationship.

They had been living apart for about a week when Francisco visited her home, apologizing and claiming he wanted to reconcile. However, she refused and made it clear she no longer wanted to continue the marriage. This triggered an extreme outburst of aggression, and among other injuries, he slit her throat with the machete.
The suspect was arrested by police just one day later and charged with murder. Further investigation revealed the attack had been premeditated, as he arrived at the scene already armed with a machete.
