AMOLE VILLAGE, KWAMKI NARAMA DISTRICT, CENTRAL PAPUA, INDONESIA – AUGUST 1, 2026 Man identified by the initials GW died after being attacked with dozens of arrows. His body was found with numerous arrows embedded in it, and the case is now being investigated by police, who are trying to determine all the circumstances of the attack.
According to police, the man was allegedly under the influence of alcohol before the incident, armed with a machete, and headed toward the territory of the rival Newegalen group. It was there that a confrontation reportedly occurred, during which he was attacked and suffered fatal injuries.
After the attack, both rival groups went on heightened alert due to fears of further violence. Police said the situation remains calm and are attempting to establish a security zone between the two sides to prevent retaliatory attacks.
The Kwamki Narama area is one of the regions in Papua where clashes between local tribal groups have occurred in the past. Some communities there have long-standing disputes that can escalate into armed conflicts involving traditional weapons such as bows and arrows or machetes. These conflicts are often linked to historical rivalries, territorial disputes, or retaliatory actions between different groups.
