NAKHON PATHOM, THAILAND – OCTOBER 21, 2002 Suspicious package has been delivered to a social security office near the Thai capital Bangkok. Staff at the office called the police to the scene. Ordinary police patrols were the first to arrive at the scene, and police bomb squads were called to the scene. Before the bomb squad arrived, one of the officers attempted to open the package himself, activating the bomb triggering device inside.
The explosion killed two police officers and injured five other people. One officer killed was identified as Sgt. Narong Chantanaso. Among the injured policemen was a high-ranking lieutenant, Viset Pholyingcharoen. All the injured were in critical condition.
Investigations revealed that it was not a terrorist attack but a personal vendetta. The sender was said to have had a long personal feud with an official.
