AGUACHICA, COLOMBIA – DECEMBER 29, 2024 Tragic event unfolded in Colombia, where four members of the Lora Rincón family were killed. The victims included Pastor Marlon Yamith Lora, his wife Yorley Rincón, and their children, Ángela Natalia and Santiago Lora Rincón. The family was attacked by gunmen on motorcycles while having lunch at a restaurant after concluding a service at their evangelical church, Príncipe de Paz.
Ángela Lora Rincón worked as a communications specialist for a local public services company and was known for her community engagement. Santiago Lora Rincón, who initially survived the attack, was severely injured and later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
Local authorities responded promptly by imposing a nighttime curfew and offering a reward of 50 million pesos for information leading to the capture of the perpetrators. President Gustavo Petro called on the police to swiftly investigate and apprehend those responsible.
Investigators are considering various motives for the attack, including the possibility of mistaken identity, as the assailants might have intended to target someone else linked to recent criminal activities in the area. However, no prior threats to the Lora Rincón family had been reported before the incident.
This tragedy has shaken the local community, which regarded the family as a pillar of spiritual and social life. The case also highlights the ongoing issue of violence in Colombia, where 267 victims were recorded in 78 massacres in 2024—a decrease compared to previous years but still an alarming statistic.
