BRAZIL Members of Brazil’s largest gang, PCC (Primeiro Comando da Capital), carried out an invasion of a rival favela, killing at least two opposing traffickers. They triumphantly filmed the bodies and the weapons used. These videos serve not only to prove the success of their mission to higher gang leadership but also to instill fear in their enemies.
Similar invasions of enemy territories occur frequently during gang wars. The purpose is to take over rival areas, intimidate residents, and control the sale of drugs and weapons. PCC invasions are often meticulously planned and coordinated by leaders, many of whom are in prison. In the past, they have even used explosives and carried out tactics aimed at wiping out entire areas, making PCC one of the most dangerous gangs in the country.
