PERU Man walking along the edge of the road was overlooked and hit by a careless, fast-moving driver. He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. The driver fled without providing any first aid. Police are actively searching for him.
The incident is a lesson for both pedestrians and drivers. Pedestrians should make themselves visible, for example with reflective elements on clothing, and stay as close to the road edge as possible, ideally even beyond it. Drivers should anticipate pedestrian movement and adjust their speed accordingly. If an accident does occur, the most important thing is to stop and provide first aid. When a life is at stake, everything else is trivial. Failing to provide first aid is also a criminal offense in most countries.
