SANTIAGO DE LOS CABALLEROS, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – AUGUST 14, 2026 23-year-old Amaury Saviñón, also known as “Maurito,” was shot in broad daylight in the Baracoa sector. According to local media, Saviñón had been released from prison shortly before the shooting, where he had faced proceedings related to drugs.
Saviñón was walking along García Copley Street when two men approached him on a motorcycle. According to preliminary information, one of them fired several shots at him from close range before both attackers fled the scene. Security cameras captured the attack, and according to one source, the shooter fired approximately eight rounds.
Police later announced that they were searching for two suspects in connection with the case: Cristofer Almonte Díaz, known as “Niño,” and Jeremías Laro Bonilla, known as “Jeremías.” Arrest warrants were issued for both men. Jeremías Laro Bonilla later turned himself in to police on August 29 and, according to investigators, was driving the motorcycle used in the attack.
The motive for the killing was not immediately officially established. Police and prosecutors are continuing to investigate the case to determine the circumstances of the crime and establish the responsibility of each suspect.
