ISLAMPUR, JAMALPUR, BANGLADESH – AUGUST 22, 2025 Foul smell of decay began spreading from one of the houses in the Amtoli Bazar area. When curious neighbors looked inside, they found a man hanging. He was identified as 35-year-old Atal Pahlwan, a regional politician for the Awami League.
Police called to the scene secured all evidence and took his body for a forensic autopsy. No signs of violence were found, and the case was closed as a suicide. The estimated time of death at the time of discovery was 2 to 3 days.
The motive remains unclear. Atal was a well-known and influential figure in the community. Everyone interviewed said he lived very comfortably. He served as a Tarzan for the Awami League, which is similar to a city council member in the U.S. – representing the local community, organizing local events, and politically representing the party in the area.
