SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL – AUGUST 16, 2026 One of the robbery suspects was shot during a shootout with a police officer who responded to an attempt to steal his motorcycle in the northern part of São Paulo. The suspect suffered gunshot wounds to the leg and face and was taken to Hospital Brasilândia, where he remained hospitalized. The second suspect managed to flee the scene.
The incident took place in the Vila Penteado neighborhood. Civil Police officer Vinicius Fofa de Campos was riding a motorcycle with his ten-year-old son, Guilherme Souza de Campos, who was sitting on the back seat. When an armed suspect approached them on another motorcycle, an attempted robbery took place, followed by gunfire.

The attacker began shooting at the police officer and his son. Vinicius Fofa de Campos suffered only a superficial gunshot wound, while Guilherme Souza de Campos was shot in the chest. The boy fell from the motorcycle after being hit, and his father then returned fire.
Vinicius Fofa de Campos subsequently took his son to Hospital Geral de Vila Penteado himself. Despite receiving medical treatment, Guilherme Souza de Campos succumbed to his injuries.
