KAMYSHIN, VOLGOGRAD REGION, RUSSIA – AUGUST 14, 2025 Federal judge 40-year-old Vasiliy Vetlugin was brutally attacked and murdered across from the district court building on Sovetskaya Street. The attacker shot him in the middle of the street and then continued mutilating his body. He cut off his penis, stabbed him several times, and finally stabbed him in the face under his left eye.

According to all available information, it was a revenge killing fueled by jealousy. Vetlugin allegedly repeatedly slept with his married secretary. The main suspect is her husband, who reacted violently when he discovered the affair. He was arrested just a few streets away.
Many news outlets reporting on the incident claimed that the husband was a professional soldier recently returned from the front line in Ukraine. This information later proved false, as the suspect repeatedly stated that he was never a soldier and earns a living through business.
