KURSK OBLAST, RUSSIA Brutal video has leaked online showing a Russian soldier executing two wounded Ukrainian paratroopers. The soldier shoots both unarmed men with an assault rifle, firing at their heads. The footage was recorded from his own perspective using a personal camera attached to his equipment.
If the authenticity of the recording is confirmed and it is shown that the victims were indeed wounded soldiers unable to continue fighting or prisoners of war, it could constitute a war crime. The Geneva Conventions and their Additional Protocols prohibit the intentional killing of people who are no longer capable of fighting, including wounded and captured soldiers. Such actions are considered serious violations of the rules governing armed conflicts under international humanitarian law.
The incident likely took place in 2024 during fighting in Russia’s Kursk region, where Ukrainian forces entered in August of that year as part of a large-scale cross-border operation. The Ukrainian military captured part of Russian territory around the city of Sudzha and several nearby villages, creating one of the first significant Ukrainian-controlled zones inside Russia since the beginning of the war. The area later became the site of intense fighting between Ukrainian and Russian forces.
