RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – JULY 18, 2026 Armed attack between rival criminal gangs in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, claimed four lives. Members of the Terceiro Comando Puro (TCP) gang entered the Morro do Juramento area, which is controlled by the rival Comando Vermelho (CV) organization, leading to intense gunfights.
Among the victims was also 16-year-old student and kickboxer Maiky Brian dos Santos Silva. According to his family, he was flying a kite at the time of the shooting and had no connection to organized crime. The other three victims were found the following day near the Tomás Coelho subway station.
The shooting caused panic among local residents and could also be heard in nearby neighborhoods. After the incident, police increased patrols in the area, while detectives launched an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the attack and apprehend all those responsible. So far, no information has been released regarding the arrest of any suspects.
