MUMBAI, MAHARASHTRA, INDIA – JUNE, 2024 Dr. Brendan Serrao from Mumbai got a shocking surprise when he bit into a Yummo ice cream he had ordered via a delivery app and discovered a severed human finger with a fingernail inside.
He reported the matter to the police, who treated the case very seriously. DNA testing revealed that the finger belonged to Omkar Pote, an employee of Fortune Dairy Industries, an external supplier for Walko Food Co Ltd., the company behind the Yummo brand.
Walko Food Co Ltd. responded with a public apology and an immediate recall of all products from that supplier. However, authorities never disclosed how the finger ended up in the ice cream or whether it was accidental or deliberate.
